Cinnamon Roll @ Half Day Cafe

Me: What’s your favorite thing at Half Day Cafe?
J: Cinnamon Roll.
Me: Besides the Cinnamon Roll.
J: The other Cinnamon Rolls.

Muffin and scones are common brunch fare but why doesn’t the Cinnamon Roll get more Bay Area Brunch pastry love? All of Half Day Cafe’s baked goods are freshly made in house and the Cinnamon Roll is one of our favorites. It has just the right amount of sweetness thanks to cinnamon, different types of raisins, bits of pecans, and a drizzle (not merciless drowning) of icing. I’m also addicted to their huge Lemon Blueberry Scones with loaded of blueberries.  Don’t be fooled by the healthy sounding Bran Muffins as they are super sweet and probably my least favorite pastry item here.

My usual brunch order is the California Eggs Benedict which comes with nicely poached eggs on top of tomato, spinach, and an English muffin.  It comes with too much Hollandaise sauce so I’ve learned to get it on the side.  It’s fine but can’t compare to Zazie’s!  It comes with a side of home fried red potatoes or hash browns. The red potatoes are nicely flavored but not crispy at all so I usually go for the hash browns, extra crispy of course!

HDC usually has a Weekend Scramble listed among their brunch specials and J is a fan. Today though he had the Wake-Up! Scramble with 3 scrambled eggs, spicy housemade chorizo, red onions, corn, avocado, and queso fresco.

The only negatives here are the coffee (which is just ok) but they have some tasty smoothies. The other negative is the service which really depends on who you happen to get. One will get you extra pastries and another might ignore you.

My favorite thing here is probably the outdoor patio which one of the nicest ones I’ve been to in the North Bay. On a warm weekend you’ll probably find me there!
